Well I learned something today first time I have heard of just wrapping an egg sinker.

Thanks. Since I'll be mainly in the river I like the idea of less terminal tackle to lose from hang-ups. For those using the carolina rig with one hook on bottom, when using jigs is there a specific size jig head that seems to work better than others on the bottom?

If I were using such a rig, the jig would be the same size I normally use .... 1/16oz w/#2 Aberdeen hook. Use the sinker weight that holds the line as vertical as possible, considering boat speed or current, yet doesn't put a huge bow in your rod.

I never got into Spider Rigging all that much because I only had a DI depth finder and I'd be hung up by the time my DI unit showed me the brushpile . But with the advent of 360 & forward looking tech, that problem is mostly eliminated for the folks that have them. I just got into Pushing jigs & Livescope sniping more so than Spider Rigging, but if the situation warrants it I'm in better shape now than when I only had a DI unit.

For years when I pushed baits on 18 foot rods and used a rod carrier I used the simple drop shot rig where you tie 2 number 2 light wire hooks or jigs and weights up to 2 ounces that would align with the 2 bottom rod eyes to place with line below that long enough to wrap around rod butt where you hold in place with rubber bands. Caught many a crappie using this setup for years.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Plugneck, If using plastics that are 2" I'd go 1/16th.
But shorter baits like small tubes 1.75" I'd try 1/32nd.
My leader would be 6lb mono.
