    Default Some days

really are just a better bite than others .
not sure why , but often times when I am sure it's hammer time , it ain't .
And then when I say may as well try , it is on fire .....
    go figure right ....
case in point , the river was slim Pickens the other day
and as was the lake on the next day
both days I would a told ya it was a sling festival ....
such is how the crappie ketchn goes ....
below are some of the river fish ...
    KABOOM is the word

On fire or just a single bite. I'm usually happy just to get out and not get skunked.

the crappie never seem to get near the rip rap down there , but some can be had out in the main river channel, most of the time they are flat out tight to the columns, that part of the river is a straight away and the columns are about right in the middle of the river channel.
it can be very much a challenge to ketch even one or 2 crappie down there , wind and current and distance make it a really hard core situation about 90% of the time ,that coupled with the spillway above that spot and the one right below it sort of creates a situation where it is likely every crappie in that area hangs on or near that bridge , there is no other cover to speak of and they are somewhat trapped in that stretch of the river .
the good news is that most folks don't think about EVEN trying to ketch a crappie down there and that in turn makes it a bit less difficult to ketch a few .

River fishing is fun, and has that other element of figuring out what has changed from yesterday! Nice story and post.

with only your senses to go on and what might or might not work, it for sure is a challenge, they change up dramatically in many cases from day to day
