Default How to find the smallest crappie in your lake

since the "newest" thing about when LS showed up is how to find the biggest crappie in your lake video challenge is so abundant , maybe I should make some videos on how to ketch the smallest crappie in your lake ....
why be like the masses and go spend loads of bucks and time editing videos and such to be just one in the crowd of let me show folks ....
It is more than evident by the current trends that LS has made some of these folks legends in the world of angling , my bass tourney bud has had a super poor year and it is ONLY because he still hasn't gone to LS. he used to win and or be in the top 3 for many years and has faded in the standings this year totally and it is no surprise.
Even got it handed to him recently by a gal who was ketchn big bass all around him in a circle as he watched , one of my other crappie tournament pro angler friends told me it is flat out impossible to compete against LS with other electronics too!
So fast forward to maybe someone should do the how to find them without LS and even go so far as to promote ketchn the lil ones .....
I man it could happen , possibly someone would be interested , possibly some fella standing on a dock without a boat or such to go chase them .
So here we go with the written version, Pontoons boats are plentiful in most lakes that have docks . MOST all of them park nose into the dock . This makes it darn near impossible to shoot them from a boat , BUT quite easily done from the front with a slight side arm cast .
One of the old timers that used to be a mentor that sadly passed away during the Covid thing showed me this little trick many years ago . He said they are under the pontoons and proceeded to show me how to ketch them that way. Now mind you this , they ain't always small fish up under them and I lost a few real large ones back then and still do up under pontoon boats , hard to get a solid hook set and things can go sideways quick if they are large fish .
none the less this here write up is for those that might find themselves "perched" up on a dock someday pitching a jig. the fish seem to like the extra dark cover the pontoon provides and just suspend underneath them.
If you find yourself in this scenario , try a light small jig that casts well , let it settle just a bit as it hits the water , watch for it to go slack and if it don't , start a very slow very steady retrieve , it is quite often you get bit every cast under some of the boats .
ketched 27 in an hour and lost a real nice one too , took me a bit to figure it out ,but there they was all up under a few different ponton boats at the dock.
So without further ado , welcome to my new "how to ketch the smallest crappie in your lake" endeavor ....

the fella that taught me about 10 years ago was really good at ketchn big crappie under them pontoon boats, his dock produced both the lake records for crappie on that lake , not huge by the current trends but well over 2 lb crappie are hard to ketch in this area of the world .

If I want to find the smallest crappie in ANY lake, all I have to do is go fishing.

Most brush piles here are usually loaded with small black crappie. A few good ones in the mix. I have better luck looking for suspended slabs a few feet away from the piles.
