never ate a river cooter , them get pretty good size as hard shelled turtles go in these parts , kin to a red eared slider I am pretty sure ,the larger versions are sometimes vegetarians , seen them grazing before like cattle on some kind of water cabbage when I was young fella . seems they kinda lose the meat eating habit once they grow up.

They do fight like crazy, I’ve caught some biguns that I really didn’t want my jig back from. Very cool story and definitely a KABOOM moment. They’re tasty til they get real big and have the yellow fat when you clean em, that’s nasty! Little fellers like that are yummy. Thanks for the ride.
