Threadfin, baby drum, and log perch, even small bluegill are much more common food sources here. Crappie will definitely eat big baits, but not all of them all the time. We used to catch a bunch of crappie on small lakes around where I grew up on 1/2oz rattle traps and big plastic worms while bass fishing.
Seen them hit 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits with double #5 willow leaf blades in the spring while Bass fishing. Crappie here used to bigger baits since we don't have Threadfins. High Crappie numbers guess there is lots of competition for food .

Could be but I try to avoid short fish and prefer big jigs here . Our fish feed mostly on Gizzard Shad which don't stay small very long .

1/32 is standard for me. I've caught them on 4-6" shad when I used to striper fish. Caught them on 4" swim baits. I have livescope as well, and for the life of me, struggle to get them to hit a 1/16, while we have guys that tourny fish with us that catch them on 1/4jigs. Primarily black crappie, but the whites we do have are typically aggressive.
