the BnM lil jewel we use is a bit light for crappie if they are big crappie , but it works well on typical panfish size crappie , it is flyrod light though and just a whisper of a rod .

Can you use the Lil jewel for casting at all, or is it more suited for jigging from docks and/or boats?

    It’s a graphite cane pole.

No reel — you just tie a fixed length of line to the tip.

Oh gotcha. How much line does one usually use?

I use 1-2' less than rod length. So, 10' rod ----> 8-9' of line.

    It's short-range fishing. LOL

I like my acc crappie stix 13 foot super grip rod. It's a great jigging rod for livescope fishing but wouldn't be much at casting.

Is it telescopic? Or is it 2 or 3-piece?

When I was using a telescopic pole I tied the line off back near the handle end, then spiral wrapped around the pole a few times & then wrapped the line several times thru the tip eye and measured off line the length of the pole. This way I had backup line in case I broke off a portion on a snag.
