    A friends 8 acre pond in TN had many bass that had odd twists behind the dorsal fin. They still fought like crazy but I thought it odd, like maybe some weird genetics? Been seven years since I fished it, I bet they’re straight up dandies by now. And I call the little fillets “tater chips” and they are better than the full size versions. Good skills.

    not sure on the genetics part , the fisheries biologist fella I asked about it said it was likely due to some form of early development damage when they were in fry mode ?
    but much like you , I see it more prevalent in some spots than others ....
