Nice fillet skills.
Some say it ain't easy to fillet them there "crooked crappie" and I will be the first to say this about that, it for sure ain't so easy to carve around a snake spined crappie ......
But if you are good with the knife and don't try to rip thru them, it can most certainly be accomplished if the knife is super sharp and you follow them there curves carefully .....
so, the next time you think about tossing one of them "crooked crappie" back in the water instead of keeping it because it will be tough to fillet , remember that fella in Texas ,that won't give them a pass if he is planning on eating a few .....
KABOOM is the word
p.s. this image don't do mister crooked spine any justice , it was WAY crooked left to right and not just top to bottom ....

He is good with a knife. A couple of years or so back we were trying to catch enough crappie for our weekly crappie tacos but the crappie wouldn't cooperate. But we had a hard time keeping small bluegill off the crappie nibbles. So Ketchn says we will just have bluegill tacos if that is all that will bite.
He was told you can't fillet them, they are too small. He replied, "watch me".
We caught over 60 of those small bluegills and it took him about 15 minutes to reduce them to nice-looking fillets. Since I love the taste of bluegill more than I do crappie those bluegill tacos tasted delicious. But he didn't agree when I suggested we start having bluegill tacos every week instead of crappie tacos.
But those were beautiful-looking bluegill fillets. I didn't think it could be done but he proved if you were good with a knife it could be done.

Any day I'm fishing is a good day, regardless of what I catch.

I'm lucky being ambidextrous. I can fillet with either hand, but it doesn't make my skills any better. Somehow the family still gets full. lol

that reminds me of a day back when , took a young fella with me to "his" pond to ketch dinner , told me it was over run with small crappie and bluegill , well sure enough about 4 inches was the biggest of them and we started keeping a bucket full and got back to the house and everyone was in the we are having bait for dinner mode .....
an hour later there wasnt anyone making jokes about them lil bitties anymore as we ate up them panfish nuggets by golly
