In my experience for what it's worth and it's not worth much - small fish stay around small fish - especially during the summer and winter - Move.

When I bank fished I usually did it at night. Finding a choke point such as a bridge always seemed to be a hot spot for me

Moose.... I agree with Jack. Find a spot that is adjacent to deep water helps too. Start about an hour before dark, or as soon as the sun is behind the trees. All techniques should work. Also, try to pick a spot where you've caught fish there before. Good luck!

we target the shade areas off the bank during the summer from the banks and docks .
due to the lack of aggressiveness from most fish when the water temperature soars it can be pretty tricky .
the largest of lots of species of fish bite so light it is barely noticeable in many cases .
really early in the day at first light big fish will be within casting distance for sure .
late afternoon is much more tricky, in that they are typically on the move to where they hunt at night .
prep up for the peck and be ready when you set the hook , my wife and I hung a few dandy bass in short water yesterday and NONE of them did more than a light peck like all the rest of the fish species involved in that episode .....

    Hey Moose07

Welcome from Alabama. Ketchn is right. I also look for shade areas because the Crappie do not like looking up into the bright sun. My best times for bank fishing have been from first light until about 9AM or starting at dusk until you want to go home. I also look for wood laydowns or weedy areas where the fish can feed on insect larvae. Fishing under trees that overhang the water is also a prime spot. If you can reach bridge pilings that would also be a great target. If you can reach deeper water consider getting your buddy to help you place a few fish "Condominiums" there made from branches, and buckets filled with concrete.

    Have fun.
