    Default Summer finicky bites

This is a tip style post for those that are not used to a summer crappie bite , we often see the largest fish biting the lightest here in Texas during the summer months .
Often times we never even know we have a bite until the rod loads up , very light pecks that are for sure similar to a tiny sunfish bite are the norm as well.
Watch the line like a hawk and use a sensitive rod and be ready to set the hook , we often see them spit it out by the time we realize it's a bite !
slack in the line is a FOR sure bite if it isn't on the bottom or the brush as well .
ANYTHING not quite right is likely a bite and we even have a saying in the boat ....
just imagine your getting a bite and set the hook hard if your mind thinks it might be so .
hook sets are free ....not much in this world is for free.
minnows will get bit well , but you will likely never know it until it swallows it or it comes up minus all it's scales .
jigs are the way to go , less other fish and things for sure , turtles and catfish love minnows , just saying. Also to be sure, you can get quite jiggy with it in the summer months as the baitfish are just a hopping around too .....
AND invest in a good scent to apply on your jig , SCENT matters.
summer time crappie ketchn can be tricky and very rewarding once you get tuned into it's NOT a bite .....

Ketchn, I know you spend a lot of time helping the rest of us improve but this post is exceptionally great. I was just telling my wife 5 minutes before getting on Crappie.com, "Bring on the Heat" most crappie anglers don't know the summer bite. I'm just saying thanks for those who really don't know how "GOLDEN" the information you shared is. Regards

Kitchen you hit the nail on the head for me on todays fishing trip, exactly the same way, the bites were very light. And if you think you have a bite you better set the hook quickly or nothing. Thank you for your post, learning a lot here, thank you fellows.

Great information. A very slow steady rise often gets me bit in the summer.

Good thread to give people confidence to keep fishing, even when the bite aggression has dropped off.
If you can deal with braid, it can help on the soft bites.
