The Crappie Whisper
possibly for sure yes and possibly for sure no , the jury seems to deliberate forever on this subject . and silly me keeps on pitching different stuff to see what might be better than the last color .
the other day orange head and chart body was better than the other 2 items I pitched , the hand tie was ok and the orange orange ok , but the nuclear chart on the orange head was quite often multiple bites per cast .
of course being this time of year as i told someone recently , a marlboro cigarette but will also get it done if you want to use one ......
more testing is needed for sure .......

I’ve proven it to myself, some days yes it REALLY matters, Then some days they are just flat hungry and they will gulp down anything that gets in range.
The big question is what goes on in that bb sized brain to make them want one color over another???

during the spawn when they are reaction biting color doesn't mean as much as movement. last week in two different lakes in spawn on both it was big difference in ketchn with a curly tailed jig as opposed to conventional one got way more fish.
other times it IS crucial. couple weeks ago on a dock in brush with muddy water it wasn't till I put on a MoGlo BG sunrise jig that suddenly starting getting bit HARD when before on same areas wasn't getting much at all and some light strikes and no hook ups. It's like always, everyday you have to adjust to conditions.
then you add in if you have a nibble or slabsauce on can make a huge difference if they are choosy.
In the last picture crappie hit so hard it knocked the eye off the jig, happens to me sometimes but they still catch fish. Color matters if it's the right color in the water you are fishing. Water color is huge and it tells me what I want to use first. When spawning crappie will eat anything that moves and jig doesn't even have to be in the water. I've had crappie take my jig in shallow water with the jig a few inches above the water surface, actually come out of the water to grab it.
