Whoppers with those fries!
Because the biggie size is hard on the waistline they say
Post spawn fish often have a less than aggressive approach to life , this said they also often have access to baby fish in numbers . It has been said they guard their young , that I highly doubt , and they likely even eat their own babies ,but none the less they eat large amounts of the "small fries" that are abundant after some of this years "new" fish are out and about in the brave new world.
So when you are out and about and start seeing some of those "small fries" it is a good idea to try and imitate the size of them. Color may or may not play a roll in it , but to be sure presentation does, fry often hang high in the water column in most places and it is likely do to their main sources of food being in that depth range .
Case in point , I managed 109 crappie ,3 bass and 1 bluegill the other day in 3 hours . The number of fish could have been considerably higher if a storm front didn't hit about 2 hours into the visit , it didn't shut them off completely ,but to be sure it slowed them down considerably.
So the tip of the week goes like this , try a really small bait in the next month or so and if you don't possess the technology to "see" where the fish are hanging around try a float and jig set shallow ,especially around cover in any depth of water . The crappie might be in deep water up high on cover eating the new hatch . just saying and for sure ....
