Not sure other states when it comes to inflatables they are not considered as a life jacket unless always warn. Here if stopped you would get a ticket if all you had were inflatables and not being warn. Where as normal lifejackets do not have to be warn just on board to cover the number of people.

I believe they have to be worn here while you are moving with the main motor.

I recently took the time to tuck away six life vests in my boat. We use inflatables all the time but to comply with the law, we also have regular PFDs on board. It is surprising how low the percentage is of clients who wear any kind of life preserver. Every one who steps on my boat is offered one. Adults can make their own choice. Kids must wear them.

I keep regular vest in the boat as well. I tend to wear them more now than I used too. With age sometimes comes better choices

In MS you have to wear a LJ while underway with main motor. You do not have to wear one while fishing if you are over 12. However, you do have to have one wearable onboard for each person, and the inflatables DO NOT COUNT unless they are being worn. In other words, just having one in the boat does not count. I learned that the hard way.

interesting that an inflatable dont count if you dont wear it and yet difficult to imagine some law enforcement fella not just warning a fella instead of writing him a ticket .....prolly wouldnt sleep well if I was that kind of fella ....
heck i may be guilty of crimes i never knew i committed as well ,but in the end most think i need to be committed anyway .....

I would have a hard time writing that ticket as well.
