This question is not meant to be critical in any way, but is simply due to my ignorance. Why do you guys need your bunks to be slick?

Due to my trailer design the boat had to float off the trailer...the trailer bunks had to be completely submerged. When launching by myself that was an issue. I tried the Slick Bunks.....but using those I had no control at all. So I removed the Slick Bunks...but I now use Liquid Roller and spray my bunks twice a year....just a light spray in a certain area on the bunk. Then I can back halfway into the water..unhook and shove the boat off the trailer. From talking with folks it seems a lot of boats have trouble coming off the trailer.

    Regards

Shallow angle launches here in some places. Couple that with a taller trailer and it can be difficult to get to boat pushed off the trailer. It is more of a winter pool problem here for me. I also need to add some length to the trailer tongue. It seems kind of short. The back bumper of the truck is over the water before the trailer is at the right depth. Makes for wet feet when launching by yourself

I used PVC board on boat trailer that I just sold to my cousin. Bought it at home depot, installed it over a bare 2x4 when I had to replace the bunks. As someone else said I've read of others using plastic rain gutter.

Jack, instead of stretching the trailer, make a longer hitch insert. I’ve seen one used that was 2’ long and solved this gents problem. He didn’t tow with it but changed it at the ramp and never got in the water again. I would think it would be stuff at natural ramps instead of getting into the soft stuff at the waterline.

One of my fishing buddies has them on his trailer for his 18' glass skiff and they seem to help. One down side is one ramp we use on Kentucky Lake is really steep, and the winch strap must be connected and winched up snug to keep the boat on the trailer before pulling up to the parking lot.

Indoor/Outdoor carpet on my runners. The boat won't slide off until in the water when launching, and when they get wet as you back the trailer down in to the water to pick up the boat, the boat slides on them nicely. That's all I've ever used.
