They do seem to be more aggressive in spring. Have had some do their best bass impressions. The 14.5 from last Saturday did as well.
Let's hear the reports , one lake here by my house has some large male white crappie that have been known to get good air time when hooked during the spawn .
Case in point was the left fish in this image and it was the first of 2 that took to the air on the hookset !
Now keep in mind not like you jerked hard and it came out as you reeled , I am talking going the other way hard and tail walking while it takes drag and head shaking as it goes !
Never can say I have seen any other crappie locally do that ? Seems to be just this particular spot and lake and to be sure it seems to be the larger ones every time.
So do tell , do ya'll have a spot where they do cartwheels and tail walk in the spring when they are dressed to impress ?
Inquiring minds thing ....
KABOOM is the word
I've only had a couple ever that jumped like that but they sure did pull hard.

It’s been rare for me but has happened on occasion that one wanted to fight up top. Now pans are another story. Some of those fellows like to come up top and do the circle dance! That’s the best fun!

a few years ago I hooked a 2 lb. 4 oz . black as coal male white in that spot out in deeper water and he did not one but 2 complete full air cartwheels at long range , the guy with me at that time had eyes like a big ole owl on that fight .....

Nice colors on those fish. I have never had one jump but like Dave I have had them do their Brest to escape.

I get a few wild ones this time of year.
I think it must be a mix of testosterone and the fact that they just moved shallow. I love the ones that hammer the jig full throttle!

I've had some bigger crappie that think they are bass and clear the water from time to time. One small 1/2 acre lake the Black crappie there was the dominant predator species and almost all of them would jump or make an attempt to. Some would spit out bass fingerlings during the fight.

Any crappie that eats bass fingerlings is alright in my book
