    Default Weedless Crappie jigs

I got the new Midwest Finesse mold primarily for bass but the smaller size heads rigged weedless with 3" Berkley power grubs and 6lb. test was used to catch my first 15" crappie of 2022. Only bite I got in two hours so decided to hit the river for a bit. Same rig, caught three drum on three casts that I had to drag over a tree and up since I was about 10 foot above the water. Moved as close to the water as I could without sliding down the muddy bank. Caught a couple white bass and then I got smoked, probably a hybrid striper that ran for about 5 seconds before line broke. I should have retied after the drum but I got lazy and it cost me. Line was nicked in several places so cut 10 foot of line off and retied with another weedless jig since there is a lot of debris at this spot. Next cast with a 3" Keitech and I get blasted again. These hybrids are so strong I thought they would never give up, but I managed to get this one in. No scale or tape measure but crude measurement fish was 24-25 inches but thick and wide. I think it was at least 8 Lbs and possibly more. Released it and caught one more smaller hybrid about 4Lbs and a couple more smaller whites and drum before bite stopped. I think I found a keeper with this rig, can't wait for the crappie spawn now.Name: IMG_3119.jpg

Man those hybrids maybe the hardest fighting fish in freshwater.

The hook is a Victory 10777 in a #1, only size they make right now. That fish wore me out, shaking so bad I could hardly lift it and fish wouldn't stay still long enough for a better picture. Released it, maybe catch it again when it's even bigger.

Those fish are bad for your blood pressure but I love to catch ‘em too. My biggest so far is 18” on 4lb Nanofil. You’re right, they don’t give up. Thanks for the ride Jim.

Nice catches. Always a good ride when a large fish takes off on light tackle. I've used Midwest head for bass but never for crappie. Gotta check that out.
