    Default My Old Hands .....

Only lasted about 45 minutes outside in that north wind and under 30 outside with a nice brisk north wind without gloves.
And the crappie were small enough to make me say OK Ketchn ,24 potato chips is more than is in a dollar bag of them these days anyway ....right ...?
H went just for the sandbass/white bass , I just went for the crappie . He did ok on large ones and I did pretty well on small ones .
Ice hanging on few things made it seem colder than it was . H put on gloves after 2 fish and I said goodbye to him after my 24 little crappie, that was quite enough without gloves for me .....
MAN did my hands hurt on the thaw driving back to work after my lunch break ....
the take was very gentle and I often just saw my float slowly swimming away, about 50 50 white and black crappie in the mix and I avoided the white bass totally on purpose .
Ain't getting my hands wet in a below 20 windchill for no darn sandbass no matter how big they are ....
will go look for bigger crappie fish soon ,this episode was just for practice .....
p.s. note ice sickles on bush behind the tater chip in the first image

I don’t know, ketch, but H may have made the right decision. You are an “all season” fisherman for sure. I haven’t got my nerve up to go out so far, but we have at 3 days in a row of 60s coming, so I’m thinking it might be worth wetting a line. I picked up some cheapie hip boots from Dick’s so I can get out a little to cover a nice spillway in my local creek.

Brutal north winds here for the past 3 days here too but we are forecasted for some 60s this week also. Might have to wet a line also from the bank! I am just not a winter fisherman.

it is just about the bite for me ,tricking a crappie to bite my jig is my main agenda 99% of the time , not matter where or how or when

been slowing down some on it here myself , used to go much more often in the dead of winter , but as I close in on old man , my want to get cold and wet in near freezing and or below freezing conditions is waning considerably

I can't usually fish in gloves. I usually layer well and then use a set of waterproof bibs and jacket and stay pretty warm down to the teens
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
