Slime Line…Any New Thoughts On It?

My crappie fishing consists almost exclusively of casting or drifting with fixed bobber or slip bobber live minnow rigs and casting and retrieving crappie plastics both with and without a fixed bobber. I do not troll, spider rig, or have live scope. I have a new side scan unit yet to be installed, but I will always be using one of the above presentations, and almost all of my fish will come in less than 20 feet of water, with most of the visible structure being docks and boat houses and lily pad or pencil reed beds during the spawn, and the invisible structure being old stumps and wooden fish cribs. Sometimes I will have inexperienced family members using my rods, and so for my situation, I’ve decided to leave braided line to my walleye rods and go all in on monofilament, given the amount of bobber fishing I do, whether it be jigs or minnows.

I think I’d like to give Slime Line a try and I’m wondering if you guys who have used it can give any updated thoughts on it, as some of the threads on it are older. I will be putting the line on size 1000 reels that indicate a capacity of 100 yards of six pound test, but since I tend to run my main line to tiny swivels with short fluorocarbon leaders to the hook, I was considering eight pound test for better abrasion resistance to sliding bobber stops and line kinking from the various fixed bobber hooks or springs. Nowhere in my region is any of this Slime line sold where I can look at it up close to determine its properties, so I’m curious if you guys think the eight pound test is overkill and won’t perform well from size 1000 reels anyway.

In SC where I live, Slimeline is popular with the cat crowd. Personally I never used it but I had luck with Stren Crappie. Thinner diameter than Mr. Crappie Line and Berkley and it doesn't get real kinky.*

when it first became popular some of my youtube buddies had lots of it , fishinken gave me several spools in a trade one day . it was ok line . the 4 seemed to snap really easily and the 6 had a mind of its own , sometimes it wouldn't break if you tried to do it and other times it would snap off on a bit of nothing .
before you go and buy it and if you like mono , try Zebco Omniflex in 6 lb. clear , as good as a lot of the other stuff out there and yet even better than others and stupid cheap stuff for sure .

I've read of people going to try it. Never heard of anybody using it tho. It looks pretty on the spool.

I have it and it snaps too easy for me. I am using what’s left and will get something different. Probably Varivas

I use the regular slime line and love it I use 8lb on my spider rigging rods! I also have a set of rids spooled with the slime line super stretch and it’s neat line it does good on light tackle with a light tip rod. It’s very unique! But both have been good for me! The hi vis holds its color longer than some others I have tried

I tried it in the 4# test and liked in better than the Mr Crappie line in the same size. Also tried the Stren Crappie in the HI VIZ gold so far I'm impressed with it.

I use it & suffix hi vis in 6lb. No problems for me. I like the hi vis the older I get. Speaking of breaking easy I have varivas & the knot strength has been terrible for me. I quit using it.
