Most ranges do not have the back stops to safely stop the 50. I have heard a lot about people losing all of their guns in boating accidents . Looked to be in good shape. Didn't seem like it was under water that long. Now we know why all these people magnet fish places.

I have been magnet fishing for about 2 years now and I’ve never found anything bigger than. 3 ft piece of pipe. Lots of small stuff. screws, nails, nuts and bolts. An occasional fishing lure or hook that’s rusted beyond use. Lots of bottle caps and snuff can lids. Still waiting to find my first gun or knife. Did find a pair of pliers one time….

Thieves probably stole them and dumped them. They should be able to run the numbers if not filed off and find out where they came from.

Smith and his grandson found the lower receivers of the weapons — that is, most of the gun except the barrel. The Barrett .50-caliber rifle is a semiautomatic weapon chambered to fire a large bullet designed for the M2 Browning heavy machine gun. The South Miami-Dade man said he was concerned that the serial numbers on the lower receivers of the weapons and the bolt of one of the rifles were filed off. “Whoever did this is not your run-of-the-mill criminal,” said Smith, a 61-year-old former Army infantry officer. Smith called the Miami-Dade County Police Department, which sent out two officers to pick up the guns. Police Detective Christopher Thomas viewed the photo Smith took of his grandson with the guns. He said Monday it will likely take the department a while to determine if the weapons were used in a crime. “Judging by the photo, those have been there for a while. That said, it will take some time for the weapons to end up at our forensics lab. Once there, they will be processed,” he said. Smith is not convinced the guns were in the water for long. They were wrapped in plastic and he was able to scrape away most of the corrosion after about 30 minutes. “It looked like it was something that someone would want to come back for.”

Barrett's are made about 20 miles from my home in Murfreesboro, TN. If you are gong from Chattanooga to Murfreesboro down I-24, it is on the right side of interstate at the Epps Mill Exit.

I didn't know they were made that close. Certainly impressive rifles. The cartridge is a brast. Hard to appreciate it until you can feel the heft to the 750 gr bullet . The projectile itself is massive. 2800fps and over 13,000 foot pounds of energy

Murfreesboro, TN also has the world's largest cedar bucket. I learned that last night on Jeopardy.
