That stuff is amazing. I put it on all of my rods. There was a time that Harbor Freight carried the black but now Mud Hole seems to be the best place to get it. I like the black but the black/red is also a good choice.

Wow, that really looks good. Is it worth it to put cork seal on a new rod, or is it better to just wait and put this on it after it wears?

I’ve used aerosol polyurethane on a few of my rods and like the way it’s working out. Most of the handles now are low grade cork with bigger voids in it. When they finish them they take the cork dust and make a sort of paste out of it and fill the voids and sand it. If you’ve washed yours and kept it wet for a while you may have seen this. When the cork gets wet the filler doesn’t act the same and some of it comes out leaving the void. That said, it’s better, IMHO, to keep it from getting dirty deeper into the cork and eliminating the need to scrub and knock out the filler. I don’t notice the handles being slick after sealing them and I use 2 coats at most. When the pitting gets bad or you find a foam core under the cork you thought you had, this cover is a good option. Replacing the cork handles with new cork can be involved but it can also be a good project for winter when you have the time. Thanks for asking.
