If I keep I usually clean them at the lake. Way easier.

When we built our house we included a big porcelain sink in the mud room with critter cleaning in mind. Fish usually get cleaned in there and cleaning up afterwards only takes a couple of minutes. I've thought about one of those sink/tables for fish cleaning that you hook a garden hose to, but just never have.

At some time we will remove the deck, pour a slab and part of it will be devoted to a outdoor kitchen complete with sink. That would be a good place to clean fish at

I always clean outside. I built a table that’s proper height for my 6’2” frame to be comfortable at while working. All pressure treated except the top, do t need to find out which chemicals are bad for me/us. Lots of my scraps go into the trash but if I’m fishing the next day they go to the ramp with me. Forgot them once and the buzzards got into them. Haven’t heard the end of that one yet.

For those who do scale, a buddy told me to use a spoon. The shape of a tablespoon is great for keeping the scales more contained than a scaler and you should already have one, you savages .

I always clean em on the kitchen counter. Roll out some brown butcher paper that I got for wrapping smoked meat in. Clean the fish on plastic cutting boards on top of the paper, roll up the paper into a nice little package when done. We scaled when I was a kid but always skin em now.

The only time I am allowed to use the kitchen for cleaning fish is ice fishing, when its usually close to 0 outside when its time to clean. It works okay, just takes a lot of time and effort to keep everything clean. I lay down newspaper first, then a cutting board angled so slime runs into the sink. Guts go right into a bucket and out of the house, fillets in a clean bowl. After wipe down and washing the counter and sink with soap, I spray everything with that pink industrial sanitizing spray. I get it from sams in gallon jugs for 5 bucks, and you dilute it with a ton of water (one gal of the stuff makes like 100 gal of spray). All done, the kitchen is cleaner than when I started.

No possible way I would scale a fish indoors. I'd do it all in the back yard and then bring the nekked fish in to clean.
