Sounds like a great time
I thought I'd share this on the main forum although you may have seen some of this on the FL forum.
I dropped Tomtom off, and picked up Billbob at the Orlando Airport. Quite the coincidence. Tomtom's visit had been planned, and Billbob's was kinda spur of the moment. When it rains, it pours. All summer long, and actually for the last year or so, during this pandemic, I've had very few visitors. I got to fish every day for about two weeks, with other people and not alone! Yay me.
I could not believe Billbob wore his Crappie.com decaled helmet on the plane. Funny thing is I did not notice that he had the decal on it until later on, after I seen this picture. Wonder what the folks on the plane thought, right! Doh
Tomtom's visit went well. The fishing got better day after day. Wasn't easy but we caught'em. We longlined the whole time.
When I fished with Billbob, we did not do good longlining at all. The water temps were continuing to drop so I think the fish were going into cover. Only caught a couple each day longlining. On the best day when we one poled, just casting and jigging, and we caught 14 fish. Not bad for only being out a couple hours.
We caught a lot of nice fish, this one in particular. Beautiful fish for sure. Tossed Bunny Butt's and home made Shuorc hair jigs, all smothered in Slabsauce. Some of the fish Billbob caught straight down under the boat. We were moving around slowly around slowly with the trolling motor in 7 - 12 ft of waters casting and simply jigging straight down. They were on structure and down on the bottom.
What a difference a day made. We fished the exact same waters the very next day, fished for a longer time, and only caught one crappie. Wow, really, what a difference.
Billbob chose to come down at this time for multiple reasons. For one, it's getting cold up there in Indiana, but primarily because of the Lake Monroe Slabfest which happened on Saturday. Almost didn't make it because we ended up in urgent care Friday night, but everything worked out in the end, and he was able to do what he does best, meet all the wonderful fisher women at the Florida Slabfest.
It really was a great event. Even though it was a cold and windy day, everyone showed up that said they were going to be there. We had a great crowd. And dang up2specks can make some good crab cakes too. All the food was fantastic and all the folks were great. Great to see everyone, and so happy Billbob could make it. It was a very
special week with good friends.
Taterlicious and Up2specks. Taterlicious donated a bunch of Flounder, very yummy indeed.
You getting hungry yet?
And since we're talking about food, here's a few more food related pics I thought I'd share.
We ate at Billbob's favorite place, Texas Roadhouse because of course they love veterans. It was good to get mom out as well. Billbob knows how to schmooze and does it well, my mom always loves when he visits.
We also ate at my favorite place, the Oakwood Smokehouse. They have the best ribs anywhere I know. “G” even loves their ribs.
