As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm just getting started in chasing crappie and one of the techniques I want to start using is dock shooting. I have a rod/reel already and have been practicing in my yard. I live in the Louisville area and my question is what are some good lakes to use this technique? Thanks!

I do like some dock shooting. I have never been on the water in Kentucky. Navonics is a good resource to find docks once you figure out what depth range they are holding at. As a general rule I look for docks that are close to channels. Those seem to be best. All of that goes out the window when fall comes around and they will get under any dock they see fit.

The biggest problem with shooting docks in KY's lakes .... most all of them are "floating" docks and that's on lakes that even HAVE docks (private docks). Lakes like Taylorsville Lake, between Louisville & Lexington, have no docks & the marina area is off limits to fishing. Herrington Lake has plenty of docks, but all of them are floating docks and afford only the slightest opening between the "floats" where one could possibly shoot a jig. Green River Lake has no docks, and neither does Cave Run Lake, Lake Cumberland or Cedar Creek Lake.
Since most of our (bigger) lakes are flood control lakes, their water levels rise/fall anywhere from a couple of feet to tens of feet during the annual Summer/Winter Pool adjustments, thus the lack of stationary docks.
Most of my (successful) dock shooting adventures have been on Watts Bar Lake (E. Tenn) and Weiss Lake (Ala).
A lot of the docks here in East Tennessee are floating as well. I can get a jig reliably in a 12 x 12 opening. Some of them get considerably narrower. That takes some work. Those floating docks hold fish.

Don't count out floating docks. That's all there is on my home lake, and I catch a ton of fish under them.
I am an absolute amateur too, went dock shooting for the first time this June.

That's kinda what I was thinking about floating docks.

I agree.. I have learned to appreciate the slots on floating docks. There's no threat of hidden angle iron. Always at constant level with the water.
