Ouch indeed. I caught a couple of gills this year on sideswipes, but not in that location.

I felt a faint bump and set the hook. That little fella came alive.

I sometimes watch videos of folks ice fishing with a camera underwater watching the big fish swim all around the lure, but not take a bite. Once I wondered why don't they just jerk the line and snag one? Then I thought it would probably be difficult to side hook a good sized Pike and then pull Him up thru the hole. I reckon it's hard to find a good folding Pike to cooperate nowadays...

As this one was fighting I kept thinking a big catfish was going to slam it before I got it in to unhook it.

That one was about 9 inches. Pound for pound bluegill would win in the fight category. I stuck a few today. Those little gills came exploding out from under the dock.

I foul hooked a tiny bluegill in the eye at a pond I fish. I felt so bad for the fish.

I used to work with a guy that said such as that would get the fish gods mad at you, and would take it out on you at the next fishing trip.
(I feel sure He was joking)
He said the turkey gods got Him once after He killed three turkeys in one day. When He went home with the three birds and told His wife, she said "You might as well go again tomorrow and get it over with. No sense in letting it drag you down any longer".
Daddy stayed on us all the time about being good sportsmen. "There's things bigger than the law you have to deal with son, when you don't do right. Always try to do right".

That little fella got educated and released with the knowledge that hooks are bad. I just got my lucky shirt back. I don't need any bad Juju
