Default Fishing brush piles without spotlock

Does anyone fish brush piles without spot lock? I’m trying to figure out a way to do this but I’m not having any luck. I have a pontoon boat and it’s like a sail in the wind.
Only idea I can kinda come up with is to try and anchor and then drift back until I’m over the brush piles and then tie off.
    Any other ideas?

In a fishing boat we get down wind and hold with trolling motor . Pontoon boat I'd say anchor and let out enough rope to get positioned from up wind . Most likely need 2 anchors or it could swing wild in the wind .

People positioned boats with anchors long before there was spotlock. Once the anchors are in place there is no noise to spook fish

Right. Ow I use anchors with my Tracker Pro Team 175. Once I get my new trolling motor with spot lock I will not need them.

Anchoring upwind of structure is a very effective technique ...

If casting it allows casting downwind to the structure instead of casting into (or crosswise) of the structure ...

If vertical fishing or spider riggin - dropping anchor off the transom allows paying out just the correct amount of anchor rope to place the baits (at the bow) right over the structure ...

I remember spider riggin a very windy day in a certain bay on a local well known piece of structure ...

Every other boat I saw was tucked in behind a point out of the wind ...

I was using using an anchor off the transom that allowed me to sit right on top of that local well known structure slaying the crappie ...

When I was just starting to shoot dock. A boat rounded the corner, idled to the dock, let down 2 anchor winches and commenced to wearing the fish out. Was in a stick steer boat. Never dropped the trolling motor in the water andnever got out of his seat. Said that trolling motor spooked them

I won my first tourney by anchoring on a windy day. I used one anchor and used the swing of the boat to my advantage. Beat the field by over two pounds and left em biting.

2 big heavy anchors one way out in front and one on the stern ,neither near the pile if possible , very gently , depth charging them is not required
lots of rope on the first one ,drift past the pile to set the stern anchor , pull rope back up as you let slack on the stern anchor . works very well .
