FWIW, I've gone barbless for Crappie and Bass. Haven't noticed an increase in missed fish. Keep a tight line the hook will stay in. Deep hooked a barbless hook is much easier to remove. Rarely injure deep hooked fish now.

Just take a pair of pliers and smash down the barb. Most will break off pretty easy. You can also take a small hook sharpening file and file down the barb.

When the hook is too deep for me to grab the jighead. I slide my little finger down into the bend of the hook( fingernail towards the barb) push the hook down and bring the jig back out. I use number 2 hooks it would not work for me with smaller hooks

If I can’t get with my fingers I get with a pair of needle nose pliers. If it is too far inside mouth or gills I cut line.
