Great tip on stretching mono to remove line memory. Been fishing with mono nearly all my life and never heard that one before. Will be doing this going forward.

You're quite welcome, BigD .... I just got thru stretching line on a couple of outfits, this morning, that will be slinging minners under a slipfloat tomorrow & Saturday. I didn't do it before my last trip, and the memory coils were a hassle to deal with, so I made sure I remembered to do it this time.

One thing I have noticed recently is that reels that are not instant anti-reverse are more prone to having the line wrap around the head or cylinder of the reel, if the line has a lot of memory coils. Now, I love my Shimano Spirex reels ... but, they are the ones I have to remember to stretch the lines on if they haven't been used in the last month or so.

Thanks for sharing this tip and I also love my Spirex reels. Just wish they made the rear drag models again.

You will love it. After 3 decades of fishing and 15 years of forum reading, why ow why, did no one else have this explained to us crappie dudes...lol
I tell everyone now crappiepappy's idea, and they are very happy with results. If they don't believe me I send them here.
Now, if you want to get rich, make a machine do it for us in the warmth of our home and you will crappie fish out of a 200, 000 dollar boat...haha

Another way to do it...
I cut my jig head off and later the line trail in the water behind the boat as I move forward with the boat in gear. Once a little bit of line is out it will come off the real easy. Once its all out simply reel it back in, tie your jig back on, and memory is gone.

Twist may be gone, but it don't do a whole lot for coil memory in my experience. That's why I do both the "stretch" procedure and dragging the line thru the grass (un-twist) procedure on idle casting outfits .... before I go to the lake. And yes, I have used the "drag the empty line" behind an idling boat procedure on several occasions. It's a very helpful "real time" fix for severely twisted line.
