Actually saw the oprey going after fish on Sat. for the first time in this lake and then again yesterday. Incredible was seeing it crash into the water from 100' up and grab a fish near the surface in an area I just fished no less! . I think if I saw that thing aiming straight at me I'd leave a yellow stain in the water!

They are certainly well equipped to grab and hold on to prey. Beautiful birds as well

I saw one dive and grasp him a fish. He kind of floated and flopped about for a while. Then as he tried to fly again, I saw he had a large fish. He worked very hard to get airborne, but once he freed himself of the water, he glided back to his nest like a champ.

One day I saw an osprey grab a fish and he started screaming bloody murder. His mate was flying towards him and was screaming as well. Then I saw it. A bald eagle. He was headed straight at him and his mate was trying to run interference. The eagle came in at high speed, turned upside down, flew underneath of him and snatched the fish away. Talk about mad. Those osprey were upset. It became obvious that this had happened to them before, which was why they were screaming and trying to get in the way.
Maybe they will bite this one……

I picture my jigs and crankbaits looking like this under water. Maybe that’s why my catch rate is so low!

I just saw my first ever last weekend. A Bald Eagle came down from a tree and snatched up a large shad. It happened roughly 20 yds from me.

A few years ago , I saw what I’m thinking was an osprey, flying with a large bass , he dropped it into the lake , dove and grabbed it again and then flew up into a tree . I don’t know how he was able to land in the tree and still hang onto that fish , but I’m guessing he did. I really didn’t see him once he flew into the tree . I’m guessing he/she had a nest up there .
When I say large bass , it looks like a 3-4 pounder . I was surprised he could fly with a fish that big .
