in my early 20 range a really pretty ex wife that was my gf at the time talked me into a ride in a something with a big block chevy oil pumper motor ,in it late at night ,her gf had a bf that owned the thing , not sure how fast we went as it was pitch black out there and to this day not sure how we didn't become a news paper article , but to be really clear , above 40 or so on the water ain't me and never really was .....
we used to test run boats when I was under 20 at a large boat dealer that I worked for as a gelco repair man . one little nipper had a 175 merc on it and was about 16 foot long , I asked the mechanic driving it how fast we went as it seemed to really want to get some air ....
his response was way too fast and it was likely going to hurt the new owner at some point in time

Some of those big block jet boats sound awesome with those open headers. They would have to be some fun until the new got worn off

I have enjoyed the posts from you guys, but as one said once the new wears off it can be a money pit, and dangerous!

It would be enjoyable to build and set up. Once running correctly it would be time to let someone else blow the engine out of it.

I was riding with a buddy from GA on KY Lake while he was practicing for a tourney in his tricked out Skeeter. We were running low 80s when something hit him in the face. He side-stepped the foot throttle and about threw both of us out. When I looked over at him, his goggles were knocked all the way backwards on his face. He said it felt like a bird that came over his Lowrance but he didn’t have time to react. No windshield on his single console. At those speeds my cheeks were flapping in the breeze! Nearly had my other cheeks flapping in the breeze.

Speaking of 100mph Allison’s, I saw one of those hit a boat wake on Lake West Point and blow over backwards. We heard him coming down the Chattahoochie River and saw the whole deal. The bow started to rise and before he even got off the throttle, he was already launched like a rocket. Guy was by himself and he skipped like a rock when he hit the water. Other boats got to him before we could. He survived but was beat up bad. His boat didn’t survive.

I had a mud duck fly into the trolling motor while running 55mph in my old Stratos. Critter come flipping through the air past my head. Feathers went everywhere. They were on the water off to my right side. Another boat drove through the flock spooking them into the air.

My days of pursuing high speed are all in the rear view, but the desire still hollers at me now and then.
