The Legends of the Fall

Some love to ketch fish in the fall and in that mix are those that might EVEN be a legend in their own mind ......
So when someone one says match the hatch , what would a possibly semi legendary ( in their own mind ) person do with such vastly important info ?
They would of course go with this .....
Match the Mask !
Never mind what you think might be the ticket , go with the right mask color and match it to the jig , there is often a method to my madness .....
But it just as often goes unnoticed in the big scheme of things . Sometimes the simple things are priceless , there was really small child with her dad on the dock at lunch time yesterday .
She wasn't doing much fishing ,but dad sure was . One thing for certain the look on her face when along came the masked man was indeed PRICELESS !
Dad had a crappie on his stringer when I got there , said only the small ones were biting . Since it rained the day before and the lake rose about a foot , I thought oh well ,a few small fish beat no fish all day long right ?
Well lets just say this about that , he wasn't tuned up like me with the right mask and color on his jig ,but none the less he had a nice fish fry when I exited stage left after an hour ......
Said he would just drink beer and watch me fill up his stringer and that in fact is how it went .....
Called his wife and said honey get some hush puppy mix on the way home , we are having a fish fry tonight .
Good stuff no doubt , made him promise to clean them and he made it clear they were going to get filleted soon .
the little wanted to wear the mask a few times , so of course one has to give up the mask when a 3 year old wants to try it on ,dont ya know ....
seemed to still bite well even without the mask and left them biting with "dad" tuned up on how to with the right jig and presentation and he was on the job when I hit the road .....and btw ....
KABOOM is me and the word ,in case ya dint know .....
