Default Neutral Crappie with empty bellies

Got a question for all the Crappie gurus and biologists out there . I took a friend fishing yesterday and saw nothing suspended . Most were on wood in 6' of water tight to cover and most on bottom . They were good fish and fat as pigs . They hit light for biggest part but had to hold it right in their face to entice a bite . Why would they all have empty stomachs ? Feeding at night and had digested it all or could just be resting without hunting food for some reason ? We kept 50 with biggest 1.75 lbs .

Still you would have thought they would have had something in their stomachs. I don't know how long it takes then to fully digest what they have eaten. Now you have me curious to know the answer

I have caught them with shad tails sticking out of there throats and they were stuffed full. That was usually in fall when the shad were schooled up.

Congratulations on a fine outing. Their bellies may be empty but yours won’t!

Excuse me. Not trying to be rude.

I never understood how a slight change in air pressure matters. A fish can swim down six inches and sense far more change in the pressure..
Maybe they will bite this one……

Nimrod you described my day on the pearl river to a T. I could copy and paste to my own post. My fish were stuck so close in the "Old Wood" no 1-2 year sunk trees, I rigged a Slider on a 11ft jig pole with PowerPro and fish the wood that way. The perch kept pulling my jigs under the limbs in the thick stuff.

I would like to know the answers too. Thanks for posting.
