I’ve found it makes no difference.

I put eyes on all of my jig heads but I don't it matters to the fish.

I was sure eyes were important, but I kind of changed my mind after reading the reports of those that use tube jigs. Tube jigs have no eyes. Nimrod catches lots of fish and I just saw and read a report of a man that caught 5,000 this year using tubes. Both like a purple/chartreuse combination for color. Many folks wonder about the color aspect of their jigs while others claim that the color doesn’t matter.

I think anything can be made to work or not work. A man what knows things can accept a handicap of some sort and still catch fish. Give him a jig with no eyes and he will catch fish. Give him a jig that has horrible colors and he will catch fish. What works for him probably would for me too if I did my part, but I won’t. So I try to discover jigs that will work for me based on what I am capable of doing.

If seeing little beedy eyes on your jigs gives you even an inkling of confidence, than yes, eyes are a requirement for your jigs. I get most of my confidence from the profile and presentation. I am experimenting in my lakes to see what the fish prefer and it certainly seems seasonal because as soon as I get them dialed in-everything changes. Crappie fishing is a lot like all the other types of fishing. Those that have learned to observe and adapt become highly successful. Those that refuse to change to suit the fish are left remembering only a handful of days that were good. The fact that you have eyes is far more important.

I like 3D eyes when I am bored enough to add some.
Maybe they will bite this one……

I believe the eyes increase the catch rate tremendously. Not with fish but definitely with fishermen

You are no doubt right, DSJ. You see a lot of well deserved pride of craftsmanship over at the jig tying board, but most days the fish might not care that much. I love seeing what the tyers create.

There is lots of talent, skill, and artistry in those jigs. Some are Beautiful creations. They are very pleasing to the eye. Fish love wax worms, red worms, frankly they eat a lot of things that do not have eyes

Eyes catch the fisherman. Confidence and "Slab Sauce" catch the fish. Having said that I love eyes on my jig heads and Pinmans.

I use to think eyes were important but I have forgotten about them. I have, however, noticed a difference between switching out a brass nickel color to a gold or pink color. Sometimes the fish prefer a more subdued color and sometimes a little more flash. ymmv.

I always tell folks that I don't want my bait seeing the fish coming . I think as long as fish can see the bait colors and eyes not important except to fishermen . Pretty baits , pretty colors and eyes catch fishermen . I think presentation with confidence is the most important .
