I'm glad to see you have mastered conditions. I am definitely guilty of fishing where I want the fish to be or maybe where I left them last. I guess my my curse or my blessing is on given area of water I am sitting on I can look to one side and see what I know is flats and to the other side is a ditch and most likely up there is blow downs or brush piles natural and man made....oh look goody goody up there are a row of 7 or 8 docks. And up ahead of me is the mouth of the body of water I'm occupying which dumps into a vastness of scary deep water with waves and high cliffs to poke around. But for several weeks each side of summer they get up on them flats to feed hard. I differ from most people because I like to drop in on an area that's littered with boats...some of them got there a couple hours before me but most of them have been there 20 years before me. I can be seen catching fish but also can be seen throwing fish back... obviously the shorts but also the largest as I continue on my of scratching for a meal of 10-12 fish in the 10-12 inch range. I feel blessed that my fish just ain't that smart or I would never be able to catch them.
