No problemo SS- The easy answer is to have TWO 10 hp motors to be calmly, intuitively explained to Johnny Law as for emergency back-up/primary motor breakdown only, sir! They're especially fond of being called "sir"! On a more serious note, if that's even possible...I owned a 1972 Ouachita 14' w/35 Merc/bow-mount Motor Guide/2 anchor-mates= Awesome fishing comfort. Have thought many times of s/s go-back! I think the added comfort of stay-put fishing easily outweighs speed, especially on restricted lakes.

I am just about ready to buy a 1652 Alweld Stick Steer boat. The one concern I have is that the lakes near me are restricted to a 9.9 hp motor. I know that the boat would not get on plane but I think it would push the boat pretty well. I'm 220 lbs and my wife is 125 lbs. My question is, should I buy the boat knowing I have to use a 9.9 hp? Any response is appreciated.

With a 10hp limit, I think you would be much better off using a 14 ft aluminum deep V with a tiller and make simple modifications to make it adapt to your style of fishing.

I fish out of a 14ft fiberglass skiff that had a 10hp outboard on it when I got it. It did not push my boat very well and I fish by myself most of the time. I put a 25hp Mercury on it because I found a great deal on it. The motor had 5 hrs on it and it came from a local fire department rescue department. A perfect motor for my boat would be 15-20hp outboard because it weighs 40lb less than the 25 hp I have on it now. A 10hp motor is not going to be enough for a 16ft boat and two people. It would be okay for a 12-14 footer on a hp restriction lake.

get a 2 stroke 9.9 nissan or tohatsu from the 90's or early 2000's and put the 15 horse throttle plate on it. same goes for 9.9 yamahas.
