Definitely a good analysis. I was just in a position that I had to bring the fish to the back of the boat that has a 4 foot base so the longer net would have really helped. Certainly was a unique situation but a collapsible net with a longer reach does not take up much room on my boat so I now carry it as well as my standard short one. Good insight and appreciate the comment. Dennis

I got a two piece paint pole that slides inside one another then attached a frame from a bait net. I replaced the small diameter net material with standard net material. Been using it for maybe 5 years now. When I have it extended the net is about 12' or so but when I'm using a spinning reel with standard rod I only use half of the pole and put the extra piece next to the gunnel out of the way.

I have been meaning to build a larger and longer handled version of a trout net with the rubber net material. Maybe this cool weather will get me motivated to get in the shop and build a jig to laminate it the strips to.

I carry one as well but don’t use it much. Mine has a rubber net and is telescoping as well. I am not coordinated enough nor fast enough to deal with both the fishing rod and net.

I used to pier fish quite a bit. It was tall enough you had to use a drop net. I lost more fish than I netted before I got better at using the net
