Default What Happened To New Boat Prices? Are Used Boats Selling At Premium Prices Too?

I haven't fished in a little over 3 years now. I've had a string of medical problems and life experiences that are finally in control enough that I want to start fishing again. I have a Grizzly 1860 center console that I bought back in 2007. It's been sitting in storage for years. It's a big boat and I wanted to buy something smaller and easier to handle by myself. I went to Tracker and looked for the Panfish 16 but found out they don't make it anymore, or at least I couldn't find a 2021 version. I saw the Tracker Classic but last time I looked at one of those 3 years ago, it was around 10,000 dollars. Now they are around $17,000 with tax and freight at my local dealer.

I had heard that metal prices went up this year but did they go up that much? I looked at the new Grizzly 1860 Center Console, they are 23,000 with prep and freight and don't even have the options mine came with back in 2007. On mine I got a fish finder and a trolling motor, all for around 12 grand back then. 3 years ago, the last time I fished, I upgraded the fish finder and I put a remote controlled Minn-Kota trolling motor with the gps and wireless foot pedal. Back then I went into the hospital and had to quit fishing after just one trip with the new upgrades and haven't been fishing since.

I was ok with spending say 10-12 grand on a new panfish style 16 foot boat. I'm not sure I want to spend $17,000 on the classic though. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I am now thinking of selling my old boat and using the proceeds to offset the price of these newer ones. Are the used boats getting premium prices as well or should I just bite the bullet and keep/use my larger boat. It's just a lot harder to fish the small lakes around my home with all the stumps. Any advice? Will new boat prices go lower in 2022 or is this the new future? Can I ask more for my used boat now or is the used market still the same as always?

Is there going to be that great a difference between launching/landing that boat vs a newer one just a few feet shorter ?

Your used boat will sell pretty fast if you think so, but finding a new boat will be tricky. Everyone is using the flu as an excuse to not offer service or parts or even a voice on the telephone. My local dealer usually has a yard full and is now sitting there with just a few. They say parts for engines is holding them back. I do see new boats without.

I think the thing to do is justtry to get back into fishing with your upgraded boat. You can always add something new to it.
Maybe they will bite this one……

not just boat prices are stupid , I had a roll repair on a machine quoted last week , the cost 18 months ago to do the same repair was between 1,700.00 and 1,900.00 .....the new price this week was ....3,750.00
will normal come back you might ask , not likely anytime soon , greed and shortages created by the corona thing and inflation in general and on and on the list goes .
luck to ya on the new boat ,might find a better deal come winter my friend

Yes used is selling high right now I sold my 2018 heritage for the exact same price I paid for it used it for 3 years for free basically. paid 11k new sold it 3 years later with 127 hours on it for 11k bought new pgv16wt 2 weeks after i bought it they stopped taking orders and a 2022 model jumped 3k more.
So if you sell yours look around see what others are selling for it will give you a idea what to ask. boats trucks lumber all super high.

IF you can look around and buy a smaller boat from a private seller you might get something reasonable but do NOT sell your boat first. wait for winter when folks sell a lot of toys they didn't use much and some arn't aware of what market is doing. if you don't find something you can live with just be glad you have something to use now. Plus have CASH in hand when you go to dicker as it makes a huge difference when you wave new $100 bills under your chin while your haggling with someone. buddy taught me that many years ago and I have bought some unreal bargains because of it. when they start to drool and stare at the cash, you have them.
