I am going to have to step back and explain what I was talking about.
As for as a boat motor being ruined by too lean a mixture I was thinking about not putting enough oil in the gasoline. No matter what the carb setting is after that the motor is going to run too hot. No oil in the 2 cycle engines fuel will make the mixture too lean and the engine will run too hot and could damage the pistons. END of the boat motor section here
Now for cars the show I was talking about was talking about (two guys and a garage) the guys were using a computer to change the cars fuel/air mixture settings to make the mixture richer or leaner. You don't mix oil in the gas of a car. Not talking about boats this time. This is for car engines only. These guys on TV were working with automobiles that dont' use oil mixed in the gasoline.
I was talking about two totally different things here guys but they did have one thing in common. Run the mixture too hot and you can destroy a piston or head in the car or the boat.
Now with cane poles problem I was thinking that he might have something stuck in the carbs fuel jets (fixed or not). Most likey there was something stuck in the hi speed fixed carb port and it was obstruction the fuel flow. Without any fuel he can't get the motor to go fast. No way can he ruin the engine like that. No fuel no go. And I would assume that he mixed his fuel ok since he has been doing that for 50 years or more now. I guess I was thinking about the one time that I tore my tillers or lawnmowers carb down and clean it with carb cleaner and didn't get the small piece of grass out of the port that got stuck in there. somehow a very small piece of grass got into the fuel tank and got sucked into the carb and got stuck in the high speed port of the carb. It would not come out until I teased it out with a small wire. My point was if you tear the carb down to clean it don't forget to run some wires though the ports to make sure that foreign objects are poked out as the carb cleaner won't get that stuff out. Grass won't dissolve with the chemical cleaner. If you tear it down you might as well make sure that you clean it right the first time. It took me three times to figure that out. Just wanted to pass this on to everyone else so they dont' make the same mistake I did. Do it right the first time. Took me three tries to figure that out.
