Default The Safari Hat and Her

    "Can I borrow a hat " ? she asked
"Sure , here is my legendary world traveled beyond super lucky Safari hat " said me
" What pole would you like today " ? said me
" I want the Barbie pole please " said she
Mind you this folks ,she has whipped more fish with that combo than some folks will ever ketch . She prefers that set up over the many I have and to be sure some of the stuff in my possession is what is considered by some as good tackle .
I know one fella drove from the other side of the lake over to where we were after watching her sling fish yesterday . So if you ever run across us along the path , beware and don't think it's a joke if you see some lady looking serious with a pink Barbie pole combo in her hand. She can dish out some humble pie in a heart beat with it I promise !
Particulars are this 75 water temp . fish parked on the bottom and NOT cooperative . sunshine here and there and then storms rolling thru every 30 to 45 minutes . Depth was around 15 foot of water and the lake was up about 4 feet from normal . Water clarity was good and the bite was so terribly light you never did feel a take . We were after coppernose bluegill and using tiny jigs and tiny earl campbell sausage strips , with a berkley crappie nibble sometimes added just because . 6 lb clear zebco mono btw
It took us a good bit to get bit as we had to figure out why they wouldn't bite and where they were .
The good news is we did ketch a few fish and she beat me on size on the bluegill and the crappie , I finally pulled ahead by one bluegill on the final count and along came the thunder and wind and we just about got beat down by a huge storm ,so off we went .
    Mrs. KABOOM was the word

I think you need a barbie pole too Ketchn! I know several stories of woman who catch more than the men. Plus big slabs as well. My wife..... well she isn't one of them.

Mrs Ketchn indeed! Nice story and I’m appreciating the Barbie rig more and more! What a great way to spend a few hours!

PS I don’t think the hat had anything to do with it, but it never hurts to have a lucky hat!

Nothing wrong with a Barbie pole. Looks like she makes good use of it

Using the barbie pole, that is hilarious, luv it! Cool she's a fish catcher. You say "tiny jigs and tiny earl campbell sausage strips" -- what is that? What are your tiny jigs like and what are the EC strips, lol? Are you, literally, putting sausage on your hook? I never know about you!

the tiny jig is a handtie 1/32 number 8 no paint head red body and yellowhair tail . the sausage strips were one inch long and 1/8 inch wide and microwaved 30 seconds to "firm" them up . the sausage strip is used as a trailer on the jig for added scent and action .

Now, that takes the cake. I mean, sausage. You really put sausage on! That is cool! Does it stay on the hook good? Have you found this to be a good technique? Very interesting. Do you always do it or when? Do you find you always have something like that or a nibble on your hook? Is Earl Campbell the best brand for this, lol!

weenies and such in little strips with the skin on one side are deadly on small hooks for sunfish/catfish/bass/crappie and sometimes other fish too .sun dried a bit or microwaved and hooked just on one end dangling like a worm will get bit. brand names dont seem to matter much and the sausage was what was in the frig .
when we hit the bluegill we pretty much always tip our jigs .
the hook point goes thru the skin on one end and rests on the curve of the hook ...
ketchn fish only has to be as complicated as one wants it to be for sure
