I know I’ve took up more than my share of space on this thread. That was mainly a sentimental journey. I’d like to add 2 more who have been crappie fishing mentors. Chad Abernathy aka catchNgrease. Most willing to help person ever no matter how many or how stupid the question. And Stephen Legate aka Ditchbasser. My kayak hero and the most impressive fisherman I’ve ever been with. Also helps every time I ask a stupid question.

My Dad and my Stepdad... my parents were separated long before I could remember them together but luckily I had a great relationship with both. They both loved to fish and I got to tag along. I liked going with dad more just because he had a boat, my stepdad was a bank fisherman. Still go with my dad every chance I get. My stepdad is no longer in the picture unfortunately. Both taught me in such different ways of fishing, but I’m so thankful for every bit of knowledge they have given.

As far as fishermen go, Rick Clunn inspires me. But my fishing hero is a regular guy, not even the best fisherman, but humble and likeable. He had the foresight to create this great family friendly sight. Tanks, Ed, aka Slab. You are a inspiration to so many members. A hero if you will. "D"

Some of y’all are very lucky. Both of my grandfathers were gone before I was born. 1 uncle on either side, neither had any interest in fishing. My Dad planted a seed when he took my brother and I fishing a few times. He worked a lot and I followed fishing on my own as best I could. TV shows and scouts kept my interest and as I got older, I hopped on the bike and off I would go with my brother. I would have to say that he helped me progress and kept my interest going through my younger years.

self taught and interested as dad didn't do anything that wasn't work and no one in family fished or hunted. Gadabout Gaddis tv show gave me set of his lures and caught biggest bass of my life with them in grandma's neighbors farm pond, real monsters when I was a lad. but always was more of a BG/LMB guy till I got into crappie with my buddy who had a boat and once started ketchn those it was my deal.

My story is just a tad different. It was my aunt Jo, Josephine. She n uncle we’re rice farmers and they used a plume ditch to water the crop. Yep you guessed it always caught bluegill in that ditch any time of the day. Memories.

Default fishing HERO / MENTOR list

My Pop and John Harrison. John has taught me more about caching crappie than anyone.
