I prefer traditional, cutting around the ribs with a fixed blade. I purchased the Smith's Mr. Crappie filet knife, replacing my old Rapalas. The Mr. Crappie is less flexible but stays much sharper much longer and it's easy to get used to for me.
I've tried electric and just never have felt comfortable.
I use the Rapala Heavy duty electric.
Cut thru the ribs, leave the skin attached at the tail, flip it over and take the meat off the skin. It takes a little practice but once you get it down , it goes fast.
I’ve also cleaned a ton with the mister twister
It’s my back up now.

Crappie don't live long enough for biomagnification to be an issue. You'd have to eat pounds per day EVERY day of the year for contaminants to build up enough to be of issue. Even with the larger apex palegics it's the same way, and even then, usually only an issue with small children and pregnant/nursing women.

I use a regular knife and cut around the rib bones primarily because I haven’t tried or bought an electric knife. I keep them razor sharp and they do the trick for me.

cutting through the rib cage mortifies me , cant' wrap my head around smearing fish poo and guts on my fillets as an added flavor .
but to each his own and saw away if it is your thing
someone good with an electric and some experience can do a pile in just a few minutes for sure ,but >>>
I only use a sharp fixed flexible blade and take a little extra time to cut around the rib cages myself .
I seen what they eat enough times to not need to see it on every fish I clean ,but ...
"if" doing piles of fish was my thing I probably would go electric ....
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
If you are going to use a regular knife get you a decent knife. From 88-93 I worked in a fish market and I have been on 5 charted fishing trips and they all use the same knife as we did. Fished with a friend from Florida and we cleaned 22 snapper. Little different cleaning method but ironically we used a pair of the those knives as well. It doesn't have to be expensive just good metal and maintained. You can not maintain a serrated knife blade. Fishing companies have no business being in the knife business. Your knife is simply tearing through the fish.
