    Default Cleaning live fish

I have a soft spot for animals and it's pretty strong. If I keep fish to eat, they are dead, I put them on ice. Filleting live fish doesn't hit me right. A lake I fish is proposing to build a fish cleaning station at the launch. People would be cleaning live fish there out of their live wells. I would love to have a place to clean fish away from my house, a place to put the fish heads would be great but I'm not keen on the fish being subjected to live filleting. If I were to do it, I would put them on ice in my boat as I catch them. I realize that dead is dead but I dunno, if I were a fish, having a knife put through me just seems wrong, lol. Running out of air sucks, too, but, I do eat meat and something has to die to get meat. I'm open to input, what do you think about this?

Preparing a private cleaning location should allow you to clean at your comfort level. While public cleaning stations, most likely, will have you exposed to what others deem as an acceptable part of the fish cleaning process. Good luck and good fishing.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.

My choices are suffocate one ice or get a knife stuck in me.........Hard Choice!

Personally I like filleting live fish much better, way less slime and just seems easier to me. Do what you like but portable fish cleaning stations are real easy! Ironing board, workmate and you can even run eclectic knives off an inverter and your boat battery if you don't want a cordless.

If one has an ironing board, that is to fillet on? If so, what is the Workmate for?

There may be more slime if on ice but seems to me there is more blood.

I like having a water hose right there, too. I rinse off my filet board every 2 to 4 fish, depending on how much slime and blood is there.

Yes either or, to fillet on. With the workmate I have a board to put on it, it's actually the piece left when they cut the hole out of countertops for the sink, works great!

No hose needed for blood have bucket for the fish, one for guts and one for water, easy peesy!

That’s the LAW in Germany. I trout fished over there a few times. You have to bang on them at the time of catch, and then slit them just behind the gills. I didn’t know this when I first started and was kindly reprimanded by a local. I was just throwing them in a bucket and they noisily flopped. I received some dirty looks from other fisherman around me and I was like “uhh what??”.

That would make a nice disciplinary tool as well, CNG.
