I can't be bad by cutting the fish !!!!! I'll just throw him on ice and freeze him slowly.
I would agree with you, but then we would both be WRONG !!!!

You might want to look up ikejimi which shows how to dispatch fish quickly and as painlessly as possible.

I read on an aquarium website that the most humane way to dispatch one of their little buddies was to immerse in an ice bath. That is water ice mixture. Adding salt serves to make the mix all that much colder. This gives you a dead fish pretty quickly. It does not however guarantee a no flop cleaning operation. Crappie however are an odd fish in that they will flop about long after they should be permanently still. I imagine this is simply nerves twitching, but I like them to lie real still for me, too.

If you want to wait to clean them later, drain away the water leaving just the ice.

I have always just hosed the fish off to remove slime. Wanted them as clean as possible. Of course I kill my chickens before I pluck them, so there is that.
Maybe they will bite this one……

i really don't enjoy hurting anything in the flora and fauna realm for the most part .
I do at times like it when a pest takes a hit ,but none the less it isn't my thing to inflict pain and suffering even when it might be the best avenue .
All that said give me a firm stiff crappie on ice that don't bleed or flop and the knife will fly .
I do not enjoy seeing a moving fish get cleaned and if I have to clean a "green" fish I always dispatch it with a blow or 2 to the head first !

It never bothered me to clean live fish but 42 years ago my new bride watched me clean some fish that were still alive and flopping and swore she would never eat a fish I caught and she still hasn't over 42 years later. Now, I ice them for a few hours and clean them after a nap.

Bother's me usually cleaning live fish. Normally they are dead when I do them. Crappie I leave in a cooler of ice all night and do the next morning. Cats I take out back and shoot them in the head with a 22 handgun.
