    Default Opinion Shimano Sedona

Hi all. Looking at the Shimano Sedona SE500FI to replace my lost 20 pflueger president reel. This will be matched with a Trout Magnet TSS, 2 lb test nylon. The Shimano is 6.5 oz, a little heavier than the president, but close enough that I don’t think it would be a factor. Giving up the ability to turn off anti reverse is a con, but right now the 20 Pflueger is out of stock and might not be available for some time. I have read up what I can, and it looks like the binding issue has been dealt with. I would be appreciative to get some real world opinions on how users like the reel, pro and con. Particularly the cons.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I haven’t used a Sedona in years. But.....I used them for years and caught thousands of fish with them. Would send them off to Shimano for maintenance twice a year. This was back when I literally fished 5 days a week 365. I never had one go bad. Shimano would more often than not send me a brand new reel back in place of the reel I sent for maintenance. I never had the binding issue with the Sedona....but the Saharas I owned were really bad about it. As for the lack of an anti-reverse switch that seems to be they way manufacturers are going. Since I don’t back reel it has never been an issue for me.

    Regards

never understood what the heck the anti reverse was put on ANY reel for in the first place
probably figured out how ridiculous the entire scenario is of knuckle busting backlashes and really foul language when the bite is on !
as far as Shimano reels go i have several and to be sure not a single issue to date with any of them .
and trust me on this part .....NO person dead or alive could possibly be more abusive on "fishing" tackle than lil ole me
i have a zero in the cares about my tackle department and only go to ketch fish
anything that interferes with that is just that ....
i have ruined several Pflueger reels quickly though
and multiple other brands along the way but NEVER been able to have a single issue with a Shimano and that goes for the cheap versions as well ....
they are smooth work horse reels for sure

My Walmart has several of the pflueger 20's. Never fished with a Sedona but I like my 500 Sienna's. You let me accidentally flip that anti-reverse and I'll show you a bird nest.

I somehow did that on one of my Sahara reels the other night in the dark .
At first I thought she finally gave up on me after 6 years of hardcore casting and reeling
once again I cant divulge the discussion we had and the 4 letter words that popped up in the dark
the good news is she was just hammering in the dark at another lake the next night
flipped said flipper back into spot A and thunk why is there even a spot B in the first place ?

Cabelas keeps sending me the “we see you’re interested in this item” emails . The last time they recently did this was when I bought my waders and they dropped the price $20 the day after I bought them. Talk about a burn!
