Nice looking colors on those fish. Pretty jig. I like catching those big slabs but the small ones can be fun as well. Seems to me a lot of times the smaller ones have the harder thump! KABOOM!!!
Good times , Bad times , you know I've had my share .....
My rod stayed bent over with little crappie .....
But I still don't seem to care ......
It rained steady but not terribly hard about 8 am yesterday .
I met up with a buddy and we ketched us a bunch of small crappie in a private little lake .
He had to run after just a quick pit stop though and left me to the task .
So there I stood in the rain getting rather wet and chilled .
watching my float go under every cast .
Because in the end like so many things in life .
Big ones are really cool to play with
But playing with bunches of little ones is fun too ....
I quit after 34 of them in an hour and went on to work .
Nothing bigger than around 10 to 10.5 inches in the mix .
Mostly boy fish and a handful of spawned out looking girl fish .
probably should have hit this spot a good while back to get on the big fish .
But in this ever busy world in which we live , couldn't find the time
About 18 inches under a float with a bright orange jig is always good in this small water stop during the spring .
Fish had that warm feel to the touch and I watched a rather tall large great blue hammer a larger male crappie . It was quite a struggle but he eventually won the battle .
I thought at first he had a beak full of dark green moss and a small fish inside it .
but when he marched up the dam and tossed it down it was obvious he had a male black crappie about 12 inches or so . the crappie fought all the way back to water and made it back in only to get speared once again and finally subdued . took him a bit to swallow it but in the end he got it done .
fish were tight to the bank and really aggressive , once they hit they would not spit the jig out . got to love determined shallow water crappie even if they are not the big versions .
i used an ultralight and enjoyed the non stop action and YES I would do it again and might go back soon for grins .
that was my monday morning and to be sure .....

In the spring most of the crappie fish I encounter are taking it with gusto .
love me some not so bashful bait bashers for sure
it will come to pass where the lilz bite harder as you mentioned
but as of late the big fish are in a competition to hit it as hard as they can .
last week I had several bruisers in short water try to jerk the rod out of my hand
NOTHING in my mind ever comes close to a 2 lb crappie whacking a bait on a few feet of line off the rod tip in the spring .
bone jarring spring hits from big crappie are addictive for sure .
hurry yawl , the spring fling will be a thing of the past soon in lots of spots .
I see bluegill coming up in some crappie spawning spots already and that my friends signals the end is near on the crappie spawn .
just saying

love it when the boys in their tux's are on the bank no matter the size. In one of my home lakes it is usually the bug eyes that do that as I havn't found where the bigun's go to spawn but we ketch boatloads of the smaller ones and can't leave em to go look. One after another after another, quick as you can toss em off the jig. one thing I like to do is help guys who need crappie for their lakes to take em by the boatload but not sure how many females go with them but they still want em and we have too many so it works out with a generous limit. plus I get to ketchm!

just saw in another of my home lakes the watr finally got back up in the back areas where it's so much fun to wade and ketchm! last two springs water was too low or way too high for it so looking forward to turkey season for hunting in morning and wading in afternoons.
Rain and the following rising water is what I’m waiting on
Some have already started on my home lake. But the big “ herd “ is still waiting
( I hope )

Beautiful fish no matter the size. All this rain today(2 1/2”) has my local lakes looking like they need plowing instead of fishing.
Good job my friend.
