    Default crappie food list

what is crappie food you might ask ?
depending on who what and where you might here alot of answers
the list is endless if its in the water and small enough to eat is my thoughts
the traditional stuff is always on the menu
but at times things that are not so traditional will get ate
the spot we visited the other day has very little of the traditional forage
so while we were after bluegill , look who showed up to cash in on the food
never say never and yes i tried to ketch crappie there
but did not get bit and gave up and went for bluegill as originally planned
they were the target species and next thing you know
here comes a crappie on a pc. of nightcrawler
    go figure
so in an attempt to better understand the menu
lets hear what you have had luck with in the past
heard about fish in Arkansas on crawdads just like night
and seen them take grasshoppers of the top before myself .
I know they love small bluegill ....
    let the list begin ...

I'll have to x2 the nightcrawler. My pb crappie was on a half piece.

Meal Worms are the only actual "live" critters I've caught Crappie on, other than minners, Shad, or Silversides. But I have caught them on 1.5" artificial craws, and even one on a 4" artificial craw. Best I remember, all Crappie caught on Meal Worms & artificial craws were Black Crappie.

I have caught Crappie on a piece of aluminum foil with a bit of bologna from my sandwich years ago.

for some reason worms seem to dupe black crappie more often than white crappie .
i have used bream slices for crappie myself in clear water tough bite conditions as a jig tipper .
but here is one of the most interesting things i have ever seen used ...
fresh CRUSHED GARDEN SNAILS ! this lady walked up took one out of her pocket and crushed it on the fishing dock
and managed a big slab white crappie her first drop
to top it off she did it the second drop of her visit with the EXACT same results ?
    go figure ....
