great ideas! thanks for all responses.
Depending on what type of slip float, line size and what size/type of snap you may be using the bead definitely may not be necessary. I use foam cigar slip floats and sometimes the line knot (4lb test) tied to fas snap (PBFS24 or PBFM24) gets stuck in the bottom of the float so that's why I use the plastic bead between the snap knot and float.
I use small 4lb line as I feel I can cast a little farther and I think the small line gives the jig/bait more of a natural presentation; and i do break off occasionally getting to where the fish are. I also use small rubber bands for my bobber stops, wrap the line around it 2-3 times tie a overhand knot and snip "or bite" off the extra rubber band on the ends and usually you can still slide it to adjust the depth. I use the same "very small" beads for above and below my float. I like using leaders as well, and usually I have several with me pre-tied with various jigs or hooks attached because of fast change out. Apologize for writing a book but I'm cheap I reckon and been using this setup for many years.
Really I think you have to have confidence that you can catch fish with whatever works best for you that's not a hassle to set up or change out.
