If you're in a boat, I usually move along with the boat about 50 feet away from the bank, casting towards it. I usually use a 1/32 oz jig, often weedless, and a minnow type jig body. Sometimes a roadrunner style underspin if the sun is shining. Cast it shallow and slowly reel it in, occasionally ticking the bottom, working it like a pendulum.
Fish can't hear, but they can feel the vibrations from sound through their lateral line, it's another way for them to detect predators and prey. If you slam a hatch door or walk loudly in the boat, they can feel it.
