Awesome catch! Congrats on the new PB.
A warm sunny day, bluebird skies, high pressure, and WINDY. I was trying a new technique ultraslab told me about we call "sniping", where you look for big suspended pre-spawn crappie on PLS, in open water, in the mouth of coves and creeks. These fish are not holding on cover at all, and are moving around a lot. When you spot them, you ease up and cast a jig to them. I can't tell you how much fun this is. The fish were not cooperating today, but I finally located some that were hungry around 2:30 PM, and caught a few real big ones, including this 2.60 lb 17" whopper! She fought like heck, too. My new PB! I am thinking I might break the 3 lb mark in this lake if I keep at it.
I released all fish today including this one - I've plenty in the freezer, and always let the over-14" fish go to breed more crappies anyway. Hand tie was a 1.5 g #8 hook Daiwa (JDM) jig in glow color, tied with monkey milk chenille, shad gray hackle, and rainbow krystal flash. Oh, and Slab Sauce G-sauce on the jig, with a white Berkley crappie nibble.
I'm pumped to go back tomorrow! Another 60 degree sunny day, and hopefully the wind lays down some.
