private waters are becoming more the thing daily in these parts , a massive influx from all over the US and land values skyrocketing and those used to be ponds that anyone could fish in are being gobbled up by new communities that spring up around them daily .
one spot though I know of went the opposite way and it used to be private and no trespassing until the county bought it and made it a park open to the public complete with a fishing dock and it is pretty nice size little lake with black crappie in it .
Now mind you it is right in the heart of a bunch of used to be open range land that is now a massive expensive houses area and it is getting beat down by the masses daily . I hit it once and only found bass and sunfish and know factually it used to be ok for crappie ,but as of this moment it isn't on my radar as its a drive to get to it .

I have a couple of spots I can usually catch a few from the bank. It makes for great after work trips with only an hour or so to fish.

Welcome from Alabama. I have owned at least seven boats in my life. Now due to Health Conditions (Stroke, Heart Attach, Cancer Survivor, 75 years old etc) the Warden (My Wife) said I had only better be just bank fishing. Been married 51 years and all I could (and better) say was "Yes dear."

Been fishing 60 years from the bank or wading. Absolutely love it and actually feel out of my element when fishing out of a friends boat. No electronics, just my fishing instincts vs. the fish.

Lakes in my area of Ohio are a pain to fish from the bank. Not enough access due to private ownership. MWCD allows access to the lake, but getting to their property is the issue. I have a boat and a kayak, and depending on what lake I am fishing depends on what I take. I still do a lot of bank fishing on the Ohio River and love to wade the little creeks in the area.

Of course we do! But for us folks here in the northeast, hard water is all that's available for the next month or two. Once the ice breaks up, you can bet we'll be out there beating the banks. Can't wait !!!

I'll bank fish early and late in the year. Mostly when water temps are still below 50 degrees. I know public lakes holding brush piles accessible from the bank and still in 12-14 ft of water. I've had some years where I've done some good early year crappie fishing from the bank.

The other bank fishing I do is in creeks. Early year the brush and bugs are down and the water will heat up before the lakes do. I wade the water with an ultalight with a jig and will catch bass all day

I have tried bank fishing a few time's but have never caught one off the bank. Know of lot's of people that do. I think my problem is I only know how to fish that shallow water with tall grass in it and can't get where I need to be from the bank Have been working on deeper water full of rocks but then the top of the rock slides is way way way off from the shore which often is straight up and down!

the bank is a steady perch in most cases and to be sure i get a bit less steady daily , some of them mind of their own trolling motors will send you for a swim if you aint careful ....i twisted my lower back pretty bad ,back in the fall on one trip and had to grab a shirt sleeve and do the tippy toe say a prayer move so as not to get a bath on a jolting quick left while i was leaning right .

some of the best crappie guru's I know fish only from the banks and use their boats mostly to drop off brush accessable from the bank. it's easy peasey to stroll down to the rocks or docks with your 5 gallon bucket in hand and get to ketchn. I was raised on stalking the banks for bass and bluegill primarily on ponds and small lakes so it feels like home for me to do it. I have no problem tho with going out on one of my buddies boats to hit the piers or coves in bigger lakes.

Use my pontoon to get to docks I can walk on at my home lake or then go out and hit the deeper water ones which arn't accessable any other way. Will do what works at which time of year but my fav? wading the edges during spawning time when the boats and cars drive right by me just a few feet and can't get back to shallow arm of lake and I am killing them with my long pole and tight line in a foot or two of water! Reminds me of my roots finding that favorite bluegill bedding area!
