Would rather use a slip float, than one that uses a spring. Reason being, the spring make kinks in the line. Has anyone ever tried closing off an ink pen, silicone would work. You could also add bb's inside, to make it lay flat if wanted. Put hole thru it, add a clip, to use it slip style. Just thinking out loud.

When I find these floating, up on the shoreline, or dangling from a tree limb .... and I can reach them with little effort ... I bring them in the boat & promptly remove the stem, so as to be able to use them as slip floats.

Slip bobber fishing is my favorite method. I like the smallest float I can get by with, less resistance when Crappie inhale the bait.

they will for sure break off at the pinch point sooner or later , they really hurt mono bigtime .
braid not so much but i really dont like braid ....the thill version is much more kind to the line ...
but as mentioned hurt the wallet ...
when you are winging floats in shallow water you are gunna lose a few here and there for sure .
and if its brushy you will lose a fair number on unseen cover .
hence the el cheapo comal versions
but those of us that hit it fast and hard ,a quick loop knot and a double wrap on the slot and KABOOM back at it in less than a minute if you manage to come unhinged during the onslaught

On the small stream I mostly fish on I like the small thill ice fishing floats. I am careful with my shoting and use wet fly fishing flies and nymphs. Absolutely killer if you pay attention and get the shot right. I sometimes can see the fly just cruising along with the current perfectly natural and can sometimes see the take. Fun times and very effective.

If you wanna get jiggy with it skip the rubber bands and put you a bead and a bobber stop. Takes a while for it get down there. And you want to speed it up put a bead and stop on the underside

Is it legal in Mississippi ? I never see anybody using a float without a minnow .
